Typically, public companies are required to file written reports with their respective securities regulator sometimes called the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In their respective countries, the SEC protects investors by regulating companies and the stock market.

Just like report cards in schools, public companies must file a report that covers the company’s financials and overall performance.
